The Trayless
Tuesday Program & Food Waste Reduction Competition
In the spirit of Earth Month and in support of Drexel
University’s sustainability initiative, the Handschumacher Dining Center
will be participating in a trayless dining program on each Tuesday during the
month of April. As a additional component of the trayless dining program, the
weight of the food waste generated on each “Trayless Tuesday” will
be calculated and compared with the waste generated on the prior Monday, which
is a non-trayless day.
For the next three weeks, if our dining center guests
are able to reduce the amount of food waste each week, Drexel Campus Dining
will host an upscale dinner at the end of the month to recognize guests for all
their hard work.
Drexel Business Services and Drexel Campus Dining are
looking for on-campus organizations that are willing to provide a team of
volunteers to help support the Trayless Tuesday program during the month of
April.
Volunteers each would staff the two dish drop-off stations
for each meal. The role of the student volunteers is to:
- Accept dirty dishes from
dining guests
- Scrape the plates, and
then load them onto the rolling dish racks
- Serve as advocates/
cheerleaders of the Trayless Tuesday program
What’s
In It For The Organizations Who Volunteer?
In return for your organization’s
assistance:
§ All volunteers will
receive a t-shirt branded with the Trayless Tuesday slogan, “Remember the Earth, Forget a Tray”
§ Volunteers will eat
for free before or after their shift
§ Organizations may
attach signage or decorations to the dish carts during their day of sponsorship
§ The organization
may display Materials and signage in the reception area of the dining center
§ All volunteers will
be eligible to attend the upscale dinner at the end of the month should the
goal be reached.
